The Public Works Department maintains all public storm water infrastructure in Cape Carteret, with the exception of NC 24, NC 58, and Taylor Notion Road. Public Works regularly inspects and removes debris from Town-maintained ditches, culverts, and other features to promote effective storm water drainage.
The Town of Cape Carteret is in the process of constructing storm water improvements in several problem areas previously identified by the Board of Commissioners, and these improvements are primarily funded by Federal and State funding awarded to the Town and specifically earmarked for storm water improvements by the Board of Commissioners. Recent improvements have been completed in the Sutton Drive area, Ardan Oaks area, and Neptune Drive, and additional improvements at other locations are in process and expected to be complete in the coming months and years.
